Dedicated Server Management and Remote Support
Many of my clients are small businesses hosting their website and email services on dedicated Linux servers. Control panels such as Plesk and cPanel make it easy for less experienced Linux users to perform day-to-day server management, but inevitably there comes a time when specialist support is needed. Typical issues include:
- Operating System or control panel upgrades
- Fixing compromised (hacked) servers (mostly due to exploits in PHP code)
- Security auditing
- Creating and implementing backup strategies
- Migrating websites and mail accounts from one host to another
- Installation of 3rd party software, additional PHP modules etc
Over the years I've worked with most of the popular control panels for Linux servers (including Ensim, cPanel, webmin, Plesk and DirectAdmin), and know their idiosyncrasies off by heart. I have the most experience with Plesk, having worked on several projects involving the Plesk API and spent many long nights tracking down bugs in Plesk.
As well as providing server management on an as-needed basis, I can also offer independent advice on issues such as SSL certificates, PCI DSS compliancy, hosting companies, and server upgrades (naturally hosting companies are somewhat prone towards recommending unnecessary hardware upgrades).
Consultancy is offered at a flat rate of $60/hour (or 40 GBP, whichever currency you prefer). Please contact me for further details. You may also like to read more about my background, and the areas that I work in.
